It’s mid May and if you ask a few farmers in Southwestern Ontario how planting is going, you will more than likely get some very different answers.
There are areas where growers farm lighter soil type or who have missed a couple rains who can say they are done corn planting and well on their way with soybean planting. There are other growers (including ourselves at home) who haven’t had the proper conditions to plant corn yet. The biggest issue in these are areas really isn’t too much rather, rather lack of drying conditions. This year, lack of sun and heat, along with heavier soil types, has resulted in many planters being parked in the shed so far. If you are a grower who the majority of your crop in the ground…good work and keep going. If you are a grower who hasn’t started planting…try to be patient, be prepared for the planting window to open up and know we’ve still got time to plant a great crop of corn!
