My last blog in August was entitled “Just Add Water” and talked about the drought in East/Central Ontario.
Today, we are going to talk about application rates of ALPINE and the need to add water to get the coverage some growers think they are not getting.
We at ALPINE are very confident that you can use a small orifice to meter 5 gal in 7 or 7 ½ inch rows and get good solid coverage. We built a demonstration unit to prove this coverage. We introduced this unit at the Outdoor Farm Show in Woodstock in September.
The first orifice (green) is running at 20 psi—the pressure needed to apply 5 gal/acre (19l) in a 7 ½ inch row at 5 mph. The second orifice (purple) is also running at 20 psi and is applying 2 ½ gal/acre (9.5 l) for soybeans in 30 inch rows at 5 mph. Finally, the last 2 orifices are pink, one is being applied through an Alpine application tube and the other through a Keeton Seed Firmer, running at 20 psi. In 30 inch rows, this is 5 gal/acre (19l) travelling at 5 mph for corn.
As you can see, all rates are being applied in an ever constant stream with no skips or misses. No need to add water!
