When talking to farmers throughout the year, the topic of liquid fertilizer storage is one that gets discussed. Liquid fertilizer can be stored on farm quite easily and efficiently. Storage tanks come in all sizes from a few thousand liters to over 300,000 liters. The most popular are poly tanks and stainless steel tanks. Liquid fertilizer can be delivered direct to farm with Super B loads during the year but a real benefit to having on farm storage is to be able to take advantage of historically lower fall pricing. Liquid fertilizer stored overwinter is circulated and/or bubbled with air early in the spring when the temperatures warm up. This brings the product back into a homogeneous state and is then ready for spring application.
After a couple years of less than normal winter wheat acres in Ontario, growers are expected to play catch up this fall. In most areas of the province soybeans were planted earlier than most years, which should open up a wide window for growers to plant as much wheat as they want to this fall.
ALPINE G22 starter no doubt does in most cases completely change the way a farmer must think about starter phosphate. And a couple of the most common remarks are “I wish I could use it on my own farm to try it out with my own equipment”. Or, “it sure would be nice to try this before I invest in this new starter program”.
There are more and more sprayers out around the countryside these days but they are still mostly thought of as a chemical applicator. There is more spraying it seems in recent years, weather it is using a pre-emerge herbicide for “full season control” or adding a fungicide to a flush crop to protect against the more and more common diseases or fungi robbing yield from their crops.
Many growers are not asking why would they use ALPINE G22 but instead our customers are asking why are more guys not using ALPINE G22?
We all know the value of adding fertilizer to a field crop. But with increasing demand from government and the end user, we have to change the way we think about our traditional methods of application.
Farmers like new technology and especially new equipment. Some Farmers are getting both this year by setting up their new drill with an ALPINE kit so they can use ALPINE G22 as their starter fertilizer. It was nice to see that Salford Manufacturing from Salford ON offer the ALPINE kit and tank as a factory option.
For most of Ontario, 2015 planting season broke early and happened very quickly. Larger and faster equipment, bigger fields and new G.P.S. technologies allow growers to plant more acres per day than ever before. This in turn pushes the crop input supply sector harder to keep up with demands.
